Kodagu ( most famously known by its former name Coorg) is a district situated in Karnataka state. Surrounded by the western mountain range, whenever we hear the name ‘Coorg’ we are suddenly reminded of lustrous greenery, beautiful climate, rare & rich species of flora & fauna, and amazing cuisine.
Coorg also holds significant importance in Karnataka for its upholding the Tibetan culture, there are numerous monasteries to testify to this statement. In addition to this, the Madikeri fort is a very well-known fort in Karnataka that was built by the then-king of Kodagu, Mudduraja around the 17th century. The fort has been renovated and now houses a museum that showcases the history and culture of the region.
Apart from its cultural heritage, Coorg is famous for its scenic landscapes and beauty. The lush green vegetation of the place enchants curious travelers. Hence it is popularly known as the ‘Scotland of India’.

Cuisine in Coorg is varied and delicious.
The people of Kodagu love their Pork the pork is slow-cooked in a Kadai (wok) until it is tender and flavored with a blend of spices. Pandi curry is typically served with steamed rice or rotis (flatbreads). but they also make scrumptious food filled with chicken and veggies and spices. Mouth-watering vegetarian food is also easily available. These dumplings are often served as part of a traditional Coorg meal, along with other dishes such as sambar (a lentil-based stew) and rasam (a soup made with tamarind and spices).
Coorg is also known for its desserts, which often use local ingredients such as honey, jaggery (unrefined sugar), and bananas. One of the most famous desserts from Coorg is Kotte kadubu, which are steamed dumplings made from rice flour and filled with grated coconut and jaggery.
Some of the famous and must-try Foods in Coorg cuisine are:- Kadambattu, bamboo shoot curry, Akki roti, and chicken curry.
Best time to visit:-
As Coorg is a touristy place, it is ideal to visit throughout the year. But if you especially want to explore nature and places for the trek, Monsoon would be a very good time to visit. Because the rains make this place even more enchanting.

The nearest airports are Kannur International Airport in Kerala (59 km from Coorg) and Mangalore International Airport ( 118 km from Coorg)
